A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A self-contained welfare cabin 10 comprises a roof 101 and a plurality of side walls 102. At least one of a plurality of solar panels 46 is mounted on the roof and at least one further panel is fixed against at least one side wall. The solar panels comprise a textured, transparent surface to redirect incoming light rays. The panels may extend around a majority of the perimeter of the cabin. The panels may cover the entirety of the roof and may be permanently bonded or adhered flat to the roof and/or side walls. The textured surface may be an undulating and/or macroscopic surface profile with raised portions having a curved or convex surface provided in a regular array. The top layer of the panels may comprise a flexible material such as ETFE. The cabin may comprise an energy store such as a battery, an inverter, a sensor and a controller.
