A fluid expelling lock cylinder
Method of overcoming a freeze attack upon a lock comprising the steps of receiving a fluid into a lock and ejecting the fluid from the lock via a block hole. The lock is preferably a cylinder lock a rotating plug 7 with keyway 5 and one or more tumbler pins 9, and a blow hole 13, such that there is a continuous channel from within the keyway to external of the cylinder via the blow hole from which fluids are expelled. Preferably the fluid ejection hole 13 is adjacent the cam at an upper surface of the cylinder body in use, opposite to the tumbler pins; alternatively the blow hole may be on the cam 19. The fluid may be water to be frozen The attack may include a second fluid to cause the first fluid to freeze, this second fluid may be expelled via the blow hole. The first fluid may be an adhesive or glue, a second fluid may be a solvent. The lock may include a washer to prevent fluid from entering the cam or coming into contact with components inside the cam.
