PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vibration absorber capable of restricting its installation cost while attaining space saving and provide a building.SOLUTION: This invention relates to a vibration absorber 1 arranged between structural members in a building opposing in vertical direction. The vibration absorber comprises: a pair of upper and lower base members 2; a lower stage guide 3 fixed to a lower base member 2A; a lower stage slider 4 guided by the lower stage guide 3; a lower stage sliding plate 11 for sliding the lower base member 2A and the lower stage slider 4 to each other; a lower stage damper 5 for absorbing energy as the lower stage guide 3 and the lower stage slider 4 are displaced to each other; an upper stage guide 6 fixed to the lower stage slider 4 and movably relatively supported in respect to the upper base plate 2B; an upper stage slider 7 guided by the upper stage guide 6 and fixed to the upper base plate 2B; an upper stage sliding plate 12 for sliding the lower stage slider 4 and the upper stage slider 7 from each other; and an upper stage damper 8 for absorbing energy as the upper stage guide 6 and the upper stage slider 7 are relatively displaced.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
