PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silicon nitride-based ceramic member that is light-weight and has a high hardness, is excellent in resistance to processing such as polishing, and further is excellent in appearance quality.SOLUTION: The silicon nitride-based ceramic member contains silicon nitride-based ceramics as a main constituent as well as further contains ZrC. The silicon nitride-based ceramic member has at least 1 mirror polished surface. The mirror polished surface has an arithmetic average roughness Ra of 0.01 μm or less. At least the mirror polished surface exhibits a brown tone having a lightness index Lin the CIE 1976 Labcolor space of 20 or more and 26 or less, a chromaticness index aof 3.5 or more and 7.5 or less, and a chromaticness index bof 13 or more and 15 or less.SELECTED DRAWING: None
