PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a building member that enables buckling to be restrained and length to be adjusted in use as a column, a beam and a brace of various buildings such as low-rise, medium-rise or high-rise building.SOLUTION: A building member 1 has an axial force member 10 and a tubular member 80 disposed so as to cover the axial force member 10. The axial force member 10 includes a first core material 21 held by the tubular member 80 and a movable member 12 that is movably fitted to the first core material 21 in an axial direction X. The movable member 12 includes a covered part 41, which is covered with the tubular member 80, and a protrusion part 42, which protrudes outward from an end part 81 of the tubular member 80.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
