PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gel composition that can serve as a water absorption inhibitor that gives an excellent water absorption inhibitory property to the surface of a porous material, a water absorption inhibitor containing the composition, a method for applying the water absorption inhibitor on the surface of a porous material to give a water absorption inhibitory property, and a porous material surface-treated with the water absorption inhibitor.SOLUTION: A gel composition contains (A) an organoalkoxysilane of the following formula and/or a partial hydrolysis condensate of the organoalkoxysilane: RSi(OR)(Rand Rare a monovalent hydrocarbon group, a is 1, 2 or 3), (B) a dicarboxylate aluminum of the following formula: (RCOO)Al(OH) (Ris a monovalent hydrocarbon group), (C) a C6-C24 fatty acid, (D) a C6-C30 dicarboxylate, (E) an aluminum oligomer selected from an aluminum oxide organoxide and an aluminum oxide acylate and/or an aluminum alkoxide.SELECTED DRAWING: None
