To provide a new silicate-based surface impregnate material, impregnated in a concrete and capable of obtaining more excellent denseness than conventional materials when a surface layer part of the concrete is modified (densified).SOLUTION: This invention relates to a silicate-based surface impregnate material used for surface modification of a concrete structure, wherein: (1) the surface impregnate material comprises an alkali metal silicate; and (2) a molar ratio of the silicate-based surface impregnate material, measured by a test method specified according to JIS K 1408, is 2.0-2.9.SELECTED DRAWING: None
