To provide a cost effective manufacturing method for forming locking systems on building panels, in particular thin floor panels.SOLUTION: The floor panel is provided with a locking system comprising several cavities 20 and local projections 21 which lock the first and second edges of the adjacent panels horizontally, which locking system includes a tongue and a tongue groove for vertical locking. A first edge strip 6 is provided with a locking element 8 which locks horizontally with a downwardly open locking groove 14 formed in the adjacent second edge to work together. The strip comprises a strip body with a cavity and the second edge comprises a downwardly extending local projection.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
