To provide a silicon carbide porous body having high thermal shock resistance and a method of producing the same.SOLUTION: The silicon carbide porous body is provided that includes a silicon carbide particle (A) as aggregate and at least one (B) selected from a group consisting of metal silicon, alumina, silica, mullite, and cordierite, and that has amorphous and/or crystalline SiOor SiO on the surfaces of the (A) and/or (B), α-cristobalite included in the amorphous and/or crystalline SiOor SiO being 6 mass% or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
