To provide an electric door closer in which high versatility of coping with both of a right-hand door and a left-hand door can be compatible with an excellent aesthetic property.SOLUTION: A main body 3 includes a mounting plate 10 for mounting the main body 3 to a door, a cover which provides an outer profile of the main body 3, and a drive unit 11 for applying an opening/closing force of the door to a link mechanism. An upper end portion 20a of a drive shaft protrudes upward from the cover, and a lower end portion of the drive shaft is positioned inside the cover without protruding downward from the cover. The drive unit 11 has a first mounting surface and a second mounting surface 41a which are longitudinally symmetrical with respect to each other about the drive shaft. The drive unit 11 has screw insertion holes for mounting to the mounting plate 10 in both a first posture in which the first mounting surface faces toward the mounting plate 10 and a second posture in which the second mounting surface 41a faces toward the mounting plate 10.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
