To provide an H-shaped steel beam that can expect local buckling stiffening effect of flanges in addition to stiffening of a web, and excellent in deformability after maximum proof stress.SOLUTION: An H-shaped steel beam 1 according to the present invention is the H-shaped steel beam 1 that has an upper flange 3, a lower flange 5, and a web 7 connecting the upper and lower flanges 3, 5, and where an orthogonal cross section in a longitudinal direction has a H shape and a beam end portion is stiffened by stiffening members 11. The stiffening members 11 comprise: upper stiffening members 11a that are disposed orthogonal to a beam longitudinal direction, and attached to the upper flange 3 and the web 7; and lower stiffening members 11b that are spaced apart from the upper stiffening members 11a by a predetermined distance, provided on the virtual straight lines L continuing to the upper stiffening members 11a, and attached to the web 7 and the lower flange 5.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
