To provide a vehicle authentication device used in a vehicle that comprises a plurality of portable devices, can inhibit absence determination required time that is time to determine that the portable device does not exist in a predetermined area, and can inhibit an increase of the absence determination required time depending on an increase of the number of the portable devices.SOLUTION: An authentication ECU sends a time difference response requirement signal that objects all smart keys from a vehicle exterior transmitter, and waits a response signal from each smart key. When having received the response signal from at least one of the smart keys, the authentication ECU determines that the smart key exists in a vehicle exterior locking area. Next, the authentication ECU 11 sends a simultaneous response required signal that objects all or location unidentified smart keys from a vehicle interior transmitter plural times, and determines that the smart key does not exist in a vehicle interior on the basis that the response signal from the smart key does not return to any of the simultaneous response required signals.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 14
