A vehicle authentication system (100) in which a vehicle-side device (10) and a portable device (20) are associated by authentication information, wherein the vehicle-side device (10) comprises: a transmission unit (111) that wirelessly transmits a request signal including a request (r) in a low-frequency band, and including noise (n) having a prescribed intensity distribution in a high-frequency band; and a control unit (123) that performs a prescribed control in a vehicle (C) when an answer signal including authentication information is received by a reception unit (121), and the portable device (20) comprises: a determination unit (22) that determines whether the wireless signal received by a reception unit (21) is the request signal including a request in a low-frequency band, and including noise having a prescribed intensity distribution in a high-frequency band; and a transmission unit (25) that wirelessly transmits the answer signal including the authentication information when the wireless signal received by the reception unit (21) is determined by the determination unit (22) to be the request signal including a request in a low-frequency band, and including noise having a prescribed intensity distribution in a high-frequency band.
