To provide a backfill material having excellent ground strength and abrasion resistance, and being lighter and more water-retentive than conventional natural sand and recycled crushed stone (RC40).SOLUTION: A backfill material of the present invention includes a clay tile crushed material 10 comprising a first clay tile crushed material 10a having a particle size Da in a range from a maximum particle size Dmax to the maximum particle size Dmax×0.41 and a second clay tile crushed material 10b having a particle diameter Db in a range less than the maximum particle diameter Dmax0.41, where the maximum particle size of the clay tile crushed material 10, in which clay tile is crushed, is Dmax. The second clay tile crushed material 10b is set to 21 wt.% or more based on the total weight of the first clay tile crushed material 10a and the second clay tile crushed material 10b.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
