To provide a bearing wall which has a small number of components and which can rationally and sufficiently absorb energy inputted during an earthquake, even in a building of a low-rise and medium-rise housing, and to provide a building.SOLUTION: A bearing wall includes: one column member 11 and the other column member 11 formed by an H-steel arranged with a distance in the horizontal direction and with inside flanges 13a opposing to each other; an energy absorbing member 15 bonded to the inside flange 13a of the one column member 11 and the inside flange 13a of the other column member 11; and end plates 16 bonded to both upper and lower end parts of the column member 11 and bonded to upper and lower beams 20. Out of an outside flange 13b and a web 12 of the column member 11, an end plate 16 is bonded at least to the outside flange 13b.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
