To provide a traveling carriage and an ascending and descending method that make it possible to move up and down while maintaining an appropriate posture in accordance with each application of the equipment/tools mounted on the traveling carriage.SOLUTION: There are provided a travelling carriage 1 and a method for ascending and descending thereof, the carriage comprising a frame member 3 that surrounds a traveling object B, a plurality of rolling members 5 mounted on the frame member 3 so as to be able to rotate on the traveling target B, driving means 7 that drives at least one of the plurality of rolling members 5, angle detecting means 9 for detecting the levelness of the frame member 3, and control means 11 for controlling the angle of the frame member 3 with respect to the traveling object B by driving at least one of the plurality of rolling members 5 by means of the driving means 7 based on the angle information acquired by the angle detecting means 9.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
