To provide a building material having excellent formaldehyde adsorption property and a manufacturing method of the building material.SOLUTION: The building material includes gypsum and shell membranes. The manufacturing method of the building material of this disclosure includes the steps of: forming a slurry including gypsum, shell membranes, and water; forming a compact by molding the slurry; and drying the compact. Desirably, a ratio of egg shells to gypsum is 5 wt.% or more and 70 wt.% or less, more desirably, 10 wt.% or less.SELECTED DRAWING: None
