To provide a shock absorbing device which is excellent in accuracy, stability and durability of operation and which is miniaturized by rotating a cam gear according to the rotating direction of an operation arm and concurrently operating a compression spring and a damper by linear movement.SOLUTION: A buffer device is made up of: an engagement member 8 fixed to a door A; a buffer body C fixed to a fixture B; and an operation arm 7 that is provided in a rotatable manner on the buffer body C to engage and disengage the engagement member 8. The buffer body C is made up of: a fixed rack installed inside a case body 1; a cam gear that is provided with a pinion meshing with the fixed rack and that rotates according to a rotation of the operation arm 7, and that moves directly in the direction of pushing a spring slider of a compression spring and a damper slider of a damper which are connected to both sides, respectively; and stopper means for receiving repulsive force of the compression spring when the pinion is separated from the fixed rack.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
