To provide an open shield machine applicable to construction of a tunnel with a large diameter.SOLUTION: An open shield machine 1 comprises: a box-shaped body part 2 having a bulkhead 10 at a front face 2a, a first opening 21 in an upper surface 2f and a second opening 22 in a lower part of a rear face 2b; a shield jack 7 arranged on the body part 2 so as to advance the body part 2 forward; an excavation machine 4 forming an excavation pit 30 in the natural ground G in front of the body part 2; and slurry discharging means 6 for discharging slurry in the excavation pit 30 out of the excavation pit 30. The slurry discharging means 6 includes a slurry discharging port 36 formed by penetrating into the bulkhead 10.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
