To provide authentication technology suitable for access control in areas where various security levels are required.SOLUTION: An authentication device 1 performs face recognition processing for each face image detected from an image taken by a camera 3 installed to capture an entrance of an area 5, and evaluates whether or not the size of the face image is larger than a validated area and whether or not coordinates of the face image are within a validated coordinate range if face recognition is successful, and evaluates whether the size of the face image is greater than or equal to the validated area if face recognition fails. The authentication device then searches for a determination pattern that matches face authentication results and size and coordinate evaluation results for each face image, and executes an action associated with the determination pattern on an auto lock 2 and a guidance output device 4 installed in the area 5.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
