To provide a fireproof coating method capable of improving fire resistance of steel beams, and a steel beam.SOLUTION: A fireproof coating method of a steel frame material formed with an opening includes: a preparation step (S1) of preparing a steel frame material formed with an opening, a surface fireproof coating material for protecting at least a surface adjacent to the opening of the steel frame material from a high temperature, and a coating material that has fire resistance; a placement step (S3) of placing the surface fireproof coating material over the steel frame material; a fireproof step (S4) of forming a fireproof insulation part for protecting a position facing an inner edge of the opening formed in the steel frame material from the high temperature; and a coating step (S5) of coating the surface fireproof coating material over the fireproof insulation part and the surface located near the opening with the coating material.
