To provide an opening building material equipped with a user-friendly backup material.SOLUTION: The opening building material comprises a frame 1, a glass 2 supported on the frame 1, a backup material 3, and a sealant 4. The frame 1 has a glass attaching groove 11 whose inner peripheral side is opened. The backup material 3 inserted into a gap (a) between an outdoor or indoor side surface of the glass 2 and one side wall 17a of the glass attaching groove 11 has a main part 5, a narrow part 6 smaller in prospective size than the main part 5, and fin pieces 7 and 7 provided in the outdoor and indoor side surfaces of the narrow part 6. The fin pieces 7 and 7 can take a state of projecting to the outdoor and indoor sides more than the main part 5 and a state of being stored in portions 19 and 19 smaller in prospective size than the main part 5 on the outdoor and indoor sides of the narrow part 6.
