To provide an electromagnetic wave absorbing material containing a (Ca, La) (Fe, Co) based magnetoplumbite hexagonal ferrite having practically usable electromagnetic wave absorption ability in the millimeter wave band, an electromagnetic wave absorber including the electromagnetic wave absorbing material, and an electromagnetic wave absorbing method using the electromagnetic wave absorber.SOLUTION: An electromagnetic wave absorbing material contains magnetoplumbite type ferrite particles having a composition represented by the formula: Ca1-xLaxFe12-y-α(1-x)CoyOz (however, 0.45≤x≤0.90, 0.20≤y≤0.80, 1≤α≤2, 0.50≤y/x≤1.00, z is any positive real number that satisfies the electrical neutrality condition).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
