To provide a door opening/closing device and a door opening/closing method that can open and close the back door based on user gestures.SOLUTION: A door opening/closing device includes: a back camera 113 capable of capturing images of a back area Ab behind the vehicle when a back door 43 is positioned in a completely closed position while being unable to capture images of the back area Ab when the back door 43 is positioned in a fully open position; a side camera 112 capable of capturing images of a side area As that is different from the back area Ab regardless of the position of the back door 43; a gesture determining unit that determines whether or not a user has performed a gesture based on the images captured by the cameras 112, 113; and a door control unit that opens the back door 43 when it is determined that the user has performed a gesture in the back area Ab and closes the back door 43 when it is determined that the user has performed a gesture in the side area As.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
