To provide a freeze prevention device for water piping and a freeze prevention method for the water piping, that suppress energy consumption required for freeze prevention of the water piping.SOLUTION: A freeze prevention device for water piping according to at least one embodiment of the present disclosure comprises: a detection vessel in which water is retained; a sensor for detecting deformation of the detection vessel resultant from freezing of the water in the detection vessel; and a controller configured to implement at least one of operating a first heating device provided in the water piping or permitting circulation of the water in the water piping when the deformation of the detection vessel is detected.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2A
