To provide an ascending/descending assist device having improved support force for supporting a load in the ascending/descending direction.SOLUTION: There is provided an ascending/descending assist device 100 that assists a worker in ascending and descending along a long lifting rail R20 having a plurality of holes R21A drilled at regular intervals in the longitudinal direction with a fall prevention device worn by the worker attached thereto. The ascending/descending assist device includes a main body 110 that is slidably engaged with the long lifting rail R20, and a wheel 133, made up of a plurality of track plates 133A, which is driven forward and backward to ascend and descend along the long lifting rail R20. The wheel 133 is provided with a plurality of blocks 133B each of which is configured to be engaged with the holes R21A and protrudes from the plurality of track plates 133A. Two or more of these blocks 133B can be driven forward and backward while maintaining engagement with the holes R21A.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
