To provide a solid-liquid separator driving method capable of down-sizing a solid-liquid separator, and a solid-liquid separator.SOLUTION: A driving method for a solid-liquid separator 1 comprising a container 3 which discharges a concentrated liquid with increased concentration of solids by removing some of liquid from a liquid mixed with solids from an exhaust port 331 and a storage tank 4 which receives the concentrated liquid discharged from the exhaust port 331 has: an inflow process which the liquid mixed with solids is flown into the container 3; and a discharge suction process in which liquid components in the storage tank 3 are sucked from the exhaust port 331 while discharging the concentrated liquid to the storage tank 4 from the exhaust port 331. The discharge suction process is a process for the liquid components from the exhaust port 331 in the state that a liquid level is a height position of the exhaust port 331 or lower.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
