To provide an easily installable backup material (including a heat insulating material), a mounting structure for the backup material and a roof material, and a method for constructing the backup material and the roof material.SOLUTION: A backup material 10A has a plate-shaped main body 12 having a length in a first direction F and a length in a second direction E perpendicular to the first direction F, and has a main groove 22 along the first direction F, on a roof material side surface 18 of the main body 12, in which a terminal box 46 can be installed, and a plurality of minor grooves 24 that penetrate through the main groove 22 and extend along the second direction E. The main groove 22 penetrates through a pair of first side edges 14 of the main body 12 along the second direction E, and the plurality of minor grooves 24 penetrate through a pair of second side edges 16 of the main body 12 along the first direction F.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
