To provide a connection structure for steel pipe members and a connection method for steel pipe members that eliminates the need for welding work outdoors.SOLUTION: A connection structure for steel pipe members comprises a connecting joint having a first joint member that is fixed to a first steel pipe member extending in a first direction, and a second joint member that is fixed to a second steel pipe member extending in the first direction, and a connecting member that extends in a second direction and is configured to be insertable into the connecting joint. The first joint member has a first extending groove and a first engagement groove having a groove width that expands in a third direction, and the second joint member has a second extending groove and a second engagement groove having a groove width that expands in the third direction, and the connecting member has a contacting engagement part that is accommodated in the first extending groove and the second extending groove, a first engagement protrusion that protrudes in the third direction relative to the contacting engagement part and is accommodated in the first engagement groove, and a second engagement protrusion that protrudes in the third direction relative to the contacting engagement part and is accommodated in the second engagement groove.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
