COLUMNAR HONEYCOMB STRUCTURE AND METHOD OF PRODUCING THE SAME
To suppress deterioration of mechanical strength of a columnar honeycomb structure containing a sintering aid and cordierite as a main component.SOLUTION: Provided is a columnar honeycomb structure that has a first cell and a second cell alternately arranged adjacent to each other with a partition wall therebetween, and sealing portions. The structure contains cordierite as a main component and one or more of sintering aids selected from ceria, zirconia, and titania, wherein when an average porosity of a portion in a range B from the deepest portion of the sealing portion of the first bottom face in the extending direction of the second cells to the first bottom face in a region of the partition wall in a range A from the deepest portion of the sealing portion of a second bottom face in an extending direction of the first cell to the second bottom face is defined as P1 (%), and when an average porosity of a portion of the partition wall in a range C from the deepest portion of the sealing portion of the second bottom face in the extending direction of the first cell to the deepest portion of the sealing portion of the first bottom face in the extending direction of the second cell is P2 (%), the relationship -4≤P1-P2≤7 is satisfied.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
