Disclosed is an apparatus for locking a tailgate, which can improve half-lock engagement of the tailgate. The apparatus for locking a tailgate includes a latch assembly binding or unbinding a striker. The latch assembly comprises: a housing; a latch member installed in the housing and binding or unbinding the striker by rotation; a pole member rotatably installed in the housing and locking or unlocking the latch member; and a driving unit rotating the pole member. The pole member comprises: an engagement lever restricting movement of the pole member when the pole member rotates while the latch member is unlocked; and a movement guide unit formed in the latch member to guide movement of the engagement lever.
