A sandwich panel (100), comprising a first planar structural outer layer (102); a second planar structural outer layer (104) orientated substantially parallel to the first planar structural outer layer (102); a core layer (106) sandwiched between the first planar structural outer layer (102) and the second planar structural outer layer (104); and a plurality of openings (108) extending through the core layer (106) in a longitudinal direction substantially parallel to the plane of the first and second planar structural outer layers (102, 104), wherein the plurality of openings (108) are surrounded on all lateral sides by the core layer (106).
