An acoustic item (10) to absorb sound that includes a body (outer shell) that surrounds or at least partly covers a cavity (12). The body (11) including an acoustically porous layer (15), the layer including a granular material and a bonding agent securing the granular material together. The cavity (12) may be a void or may include sound absorbing material such as mineral wool fibre, fibreglass, foam glass, clay beads, a synthetic fibre such as polyester or polyurethane or slag.
