Integrated Ramp Metering and Mainstream Traffic Flow Control on Multi-lane Roadways
Traffic congestion on multi-lane roadway has been a global issue recently. Numerous control strategies have been proposed to mitigate the traffic congestion. This paper introduced an improved control model that integrated both ramp and mainstream on multi-lane roadways. The basic model proposed by Papa Georgiou was firstly introduced, and then the improved control model taking both ramp and mainstream into consideration was modified. The simulation experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of the improved model. Results indicate that compared to no control and ALINEA model, the modified model proposed by this study has the best control effect on multi-lane roadway congestion mitigation.
