Sowohl in Europa als auch in Nordamerika werden gegenwärtig Zugsteuerungssysteme auf Funkbasis CBTC (Communication-based train control) entwickelt. Vorteile dieser Systeme sind u. a.verbesserte Sicherheit, höhere Leistungsfähigkeit und geringere Vorhaltungskosten. Im Beitrag wird das amerikanische System NAJPTC (North American Joint Positive Train Control) beschrieben und mit dem europäischen System ERTMS verglichen.
