Ende 1993 waren 14 397 Lokomotiven im Einsatz. Anteil Dampflokomotiven geht stetig zurück. Entwicklung von E-Loks für v max= 170 km/h. Einsatz computergestützter elektronischer Steuersysteme. Modernisierung Wagenpark. Verbesserung des Instandhaltungsregimes. Einsatz technischer Überwachungssysteme für die vorbeugende Instandhaltung.
