Alabama-Coosa Rivers, Alabama and Georgia (Maintenance of Navigation Channel)
The project proposes continuation of operation and maintenance of an authorized project along the Alabama River consisting of four separate improvements to form 300 miles of navigation channel. These improvements include (1) river channel improvements from the junction of the Alabama River with the Tombigbee River, to Claiborne Lock and Dam, river mile 81.78; (2) impounded waters from Claiborne Lock and Dam to Millers Ferry Lock and Dam, river mile 142.27; (3) impounded waters from Millers Ferry Lock and Dam to Jones Bluff Lock and Dam, river mile 245.4; and (4) impounded waters from Jones Bluff Lock and Dam to Montgomery, Alabama, river mile 300.0. Dredging and snagging along certain stretches of the system are required to maintain navigability. Environmental impacts are discussed.
