Water Quality, Conduits, and Geometrics
The four papers in this Record include a discussion of the quality of storm-water runoff from urban freeways in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; a description of new soil-structure systems for obtaining both improved costs and improved performance of pipelines by partially or fully surrounding specially designed thin-shelled core units with structurally bonded concrete or with a combination of concrete and soil-cement; a description of a case history of the failure of a 72-in. (183-cm) cast-in-place, unreinforced concrete conduit constructed near the toe of a highway embankment; a description of the use of the tangent method to determine the maximum length of an approach to a curve so that the driver does not see a kink (a sudden change in direction) in the alignment.
