Wave Equation Prediction of Pile Bearing Capacity Compared with Field Test Results
The test program was conducted during the third year of a five-year study on 'Bearing Capacity for Axially Loaded Piles.' A numerical method for solving the one-dimensional wave equation was used to predict the bearing capacities of full-scale friction piles in clay. The predicted capacities were compared to the capacities measured by static load tests. A study was made to determine the effects that various soil parameters have on the prediction of bearing capacity. Data are presented which show that the friction damping parameter J' can be estimated on the basis of the plasticity index of a particular clay soil. (Author)
