Galveston Harbor and Channel, Texas (Galveston Channel 40-foot Project)
The project proposes to deepen a portion of Galveston Channel from its previously authorized depth of 36 feet to a depth of 40 feet as authorized by Senate and House Resolutions adopted in 1971 under Section 201 of Public Law 298, 89th Congress, 2d Session. The authorized improvement involves deepening the channel to 40 feet over a bottom width of 1,125 feet from Bolivar Roads to 10th Street and thence over a bottom width of 1,075 feet to 43rd Street; an additional 3 feet of dredging below the 40-feet depth will be specified to provide for advance maintenance and 2 feet overdepth dredging will be allowed for inaccuracies in dredging. Dredged material will be deposited in leveed areas on Pelican and Galveston Islands. Environmental impacts and adverse environmental effects are discussed.
