North Side Collection System Fryingpan-Arkansas Project, Colorado
Public Law 87-590 authorized the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project of which the North Side Collection System is a major feature. The Collection System is located within the White River National Forest in the central Colorado counties of Eagle and Pitkin. It consists of an arrangement of diversion dams, conduits and tunnels designed to intercept and transport an average annual 18,400 acre-feet of runoff from tributaries of the Fryingpan River to the control structure at the inlet portal of Charles H. Boustead Tunnel. As of December 31, 1972, work is essentially complete on all roads and about 0.5 mile of conduit; excavation is complete on about 2 miles of Nast Tunnel. Environmental impacts and adverse environmental effects are discussed.
