Proposed John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, Oregon
The National Park Service proposes the establishment of John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, an area of 14,402 acres in Oregon. Three existing State Parks would be included. Establishment of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument would help preserve the paleontological resources for public benefit both now and in the future. Impacts of the proposal would include: construction of facilities, more visitor use, elimination of hunting and mining on 7,126 acres, loss of productivity from 1,379 acres of agriculture and grazing lands and the relocation of a family.
