During 1995, a total of 155,000 privately financed, nonsubsidized, unfurnished, rental apartments in buildings of five units or more were completed in permit-issuing areas in the United States. This was a 49 percent increase over the 104,000 like completions in 1994, and a 101 percent increase over the 77,200 such units completed in 1993. It was the largest number of such completions since the 165,300 units in 1991.
