Identifying Retrofit Projects for Federal Buildings
A method for identifying retrofit options for energy conservation in federal buildings is presented. Steps in the method include collecting energy use data; categorizing the buildings for size, type, and climate; identifying retrofit options; and evalating and ranking those options. Retrofits for water heating, ventilation, space heating and cooling, and lighting system equipment are discussed. Energy management systems as a retrofit option are evaluated. This overall method to be carried out by persons familiar with the particular building under study should identify retrofit options without a costly survey by an architectural and engineering firm.
