Fracture Mechanics Applicability to Portland Cement Concretes
The applicability of linear-elastic fracture mechanics to cement paste, mortar, and concrete was determined by the fabrication, testing, and analysis of plate specimens, each containing a precast flaw and loading hole extending through the thickness of the specimen and located at the center of the specimen. A rigid plastic cracked strip model was developed to provide an estimate of the microcracking zone that exists in the region of a crack tip in cement paste, mortar or concrete. The experimental results were correlated with the model. (Author)
