Historical Mitigation Study of the Strawberry Valley Project, Utah
MESA Corporation conducted an historical mitigation study of the Strawberry Valley Project, Utah between March 15, and July 15, 1982. The Bureau of Reclamation proposes to breach the existing dam as part of water development plans for the Central Utah Project. As part of the planned development of the Bonneville Unit, Central Utah Project, the Bureau of Reclamation is in the process of enlarging the Strawberry Reservoir. A higher dam has been built downstream and the original dam on the Strawberry River will be breached. In planning for the Strawberry Reservoir enlargement, Bureau of Reclamation Cultural Resource personnel sought a determination of eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places for the dam and other facilities associated with the original Strawberry Valley Project. The mitigation of impacts to a National Register eligible site entails the recording of the existing structures, evaluation of the historic significance of the site, and the preservation of these materials in a suitable form in the Library of Congress. The purpose of this process is to make a record of the site and preserve that record for future study.
