Pecos National Monument was created by Public Law 89-54 in June 1965 for the preservation, protection, study and interpretation of its archeological and historical resources for the benefit of the American people. Interpretation will stress the significance of the Southwest's tri-cultural heritage-the blend of Indian, Spanish, and Anglo influences so richly illustrated in the history of Pecos.
