Interstate 394 is proposed to be a freeway which will begin at Interstate 494 in Minnetonka and end at Washington Avenue North (Trunk Highway 52) in Minneapolis, Hennepin County. The prosed Interstate 394, Third Avenue Distributor, project begins 250 feet west of Thirteenth Street North and ends at Washington North. Completion of Interstate 394 as part of the national defense system will aid in the Central Business District evacuation should a national defense emergency arise. The facility will have the capacity to handle large traffic volumes safely and reduce the present local street congestion. Right of way acquisition for the project includes commercial and industrial establishments and multiple dwelling units.
