Segmental Block Paving in Southern Africa: A Review and Structural Design Guide
Segment block paving is still relatively new to South Africa. The bulletin covers a historical review, comparing modern block pavement and segmental stone pavements. It presents studies in waterproof characteristics, particularly of sand-jointed segmental paving. It describes the dissipation of stresses throughout block pavement and the terms 'interlock' and 'lock up'. An instrument for measuring joint strength is shown, and the heavy vehicle simulator and other tests are described, and a design guide is provided.
