Winter Park Management Unit, Colorado
It is proposed to provide the type of management direction for the Winter Park Management Unit that protects its suitability for winter sports activities, and permits expansion of the existing winter sports area. This Management Unit contains 5,217 acres of Arapaho National Forest land and 173 acres in other ownership. It is located in Grand County, Colorado. The local economy is expected to continue to grow as a result of added skier capacity and the housing and services associated with that new capacity. The additional resident population and itinerant recreationists expected will require additional sewage disposal and sanitary land fill capacities. There will be increased water yield from new ski trails as well as more benefit to a balanced wildlife habitat.
